AMD has launched the 8040H series of laptop processors

AMD has announced a total of 9 processors of the Ryzen 8040H series and 8045H, HS Mobile Lineup for AI-related productivity work at the Advanced AI Event. At the event, they gave a basic idea about the significant features, basic specifications and performance of the processors.

Key Points of Ryzen 8040 Series processors at a glance:

In this series, AMD has mainly given importance to things like AI computing, AI Multitasking, Personal AI Workspace, so the processors have AI Processor along with CPU, GPU.

Along with the ZEN4 Processor, the 8040H, 8040HS series processors will come with the RDNA3 GPU in the iGPU section. Along with these, there will be AMD XDNA NPU or Neural Processing Unit for AI Acceleration or AI Processing.

The lineup consists of 3 8045 SKUs and the remaining 6 SKUs belong to the 8040 series. Out of 9 processors, 4 processors are Ryzen 5, 3 processors are Ryzen 7 Sub Family and the remaining two are Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 9.

The list also includes 3 U series power efficient, low end processors. 7 out of 9 processors have NPU or Dedicated Neural Engine. Codename of processors: Hawk Point.

Specifications:

  • Ryzen 3 8440U is the only 4 cores 8 thread processor with Radeon 740M iGPU and 4.7 Ghz boost clock. Will run on 15-30 watts.
  • Both Ryzen 5 8540U and 8640U processors will run at 15-30 watts, each with 6 cores, 12 threads, and a boost clock of 4.9 GHz. The difference is the presence of the 760M iGPU in the 8640U, the 740M in the 8540U and the NPU in the 8640U. .
  • A more high performance variant of the 8640U in 6C/12T config is the 8640HS. Base TDP is 20W instead of 15 though the specifications are identical.
  • The latest processor of 6C/12T is Ryzen 5 8645HS. This processor will run at 35-54 watts with a clock speed of 5 GHz.
  • The only Ryzen 7 processor in the U series is the Ryzen 7 8840U, with Radeon 780M iGPU, 5.1 GHz boost clock 8C/12T and operating power of 15-30 watts.
  • Everything will be identical in the HS variant of the same processor, except for the base power of 20W.
  • The two most high-end processors on the list are the Ryzen 7 8845HS and the Ryzen 9 8945HS. Both are HS processors and will run at 35-54 watts, with a maximum clock speed of 5.1 and 5.2 GHz respectively. Both are octa-core processors, with Radeon 780M iGPU

Performance:

Since AMD has launched these processors to perform AI related tasks, they have shown the performance of the AI tools themselves. Compared to the Ryzen 7040 series, Liama 2 and Vision Model will get up to 1.4 times more performance from these processors, AMD claims.
